I tend to avoid raids, or speaking too much in guildchat, speaking on any teamspeak or such I might be in, etc. So, while I myself feel some desire to socialize, I tend to play MP games much like singleplayer games.

Whether or not they know anything about me behind the screen, I still feel pressure to make sure I'm doing everything right, or I might still feel anxiety about whether I might say the wrong things. I've heard a lot of people with social anxiety say MP games help because of the anonymity and the lack of pressure that may create, but in the end it's still people I'm playing with or talking to. This may seem odd, given a MP game will have a certain degree of anonymity, but whenever I play a game like that I'm struck by anxiety. It's not that I hate people, or that they'd break my immersion, or even that I'd have to listen to comments that might infuriate me.

I'm not a big fan of MP games, but for a different reason than what I'm seeing a lot of in this thread. Funny, that's the reason I play single player more often than multiplayer.
